The history of Flint Stoneshield

Clan Battlestone was a loving and careful clan. They had been forced out of their ancestral homeland after the humans attacked. The Clan elders decided it was safer to travel deeper into the mountain. After 20 decades of traveling through the endless caves and catacombs of mount Sonniler they found a cavern rich with Mithral ore and a strong underground river. The Elders took it as a sign from Moradin to stop and settle. Here they rebuilt Stonehaven and on there first centennial 8/29/1166 Flint Stoneshield was born into this world.
Flint was a prodigy his supernatural ability to cast divine spells and turn evil earth creatures developed very young. His father Jorin always prayed to Moradin in the morning so on the first day he taught his son to pray, Flint blessed the water and made it holy. Jorin and his wife did not know what to do so they spoke to the elders. The elders decided to postpone any notions until the boy got older but, by age 10 the whole town was talking about the boy that makes holy water and cleans food. Jorin trusted his priest to help his son, but he was afraid for times were dangerous, earth mephit inhabited a near by cavern and there was always a threat of humans attacking.
At The Forge the holy temple of Moradin the priests and elders tested the young boy first the test of life he had to get water for the priests without walking. With a wave of his arms and cryptic words Flint created water. Second test was of mercy to heal a hurt miner. Flint looked into the dwarfs eyes and with a prayer and a touch the miner was healed. The elders and priests conversed and after much debate Flint was given one final test - that of battle - he had to slay an evil earth creature. Flint was no more than 10 years old, a baby in dwarf years, and he was now in front of an evil earth mephit. The mephit was hurt but it wasn’t helpless. The young dwarf looked into the creatures eyes again with a wave of his hands and a prayer to Moradin in his heart Flint Stoneshield succeeded. With a flash of light and trembling of earth the earth mephit was destroyed. The elders and priests fashioned a sliver anvil and a mithral hammer to a chain of gold as Flint’s holy symbol and at the tender age of 10 he was cast into the roll of spiritual leader.
The next 100 yrs were perfect; Stonehaven flourishes as Flint was blessed. Flint Stoneshield was wise and strong he gave good guidance to all who needed it and lead battle groups to take the mephit caverns. He was called. After making and perfecting his own ale Flint started up his own Tavern Moradin’s Mug. He fell in love with his barmaid Mora and married her after she helped him win the Bicentennial Brewmaster Championship. It was a long courtship. They had a son Thordin. When he got older he helped his mother who was Ollam at the Forge.
Then darkness consumed and the humans attacked. Flint was on morning ritual shielding several warriors, across town Mora and Thordin were at the Forge the safest building in the city. The humans flooded the area with sheer numbers it looked as if for every dwarf there were 18 humans. The humans had fought dwarves before they knew how and where to attack. Flint was in full gear and ready, the dwarf had been preparing for this day, everyone knew what to do get to the Forge. It was made elevated so it would survive the trap The Elders had in place. He rounded up his best warriors and led them to defend his city. Human after human fell to dwarf ax and hammer. Flint was healing and aiding his men as well as felling humans. Soon there were only a handful of dwarves left everyone else had made it into the forge. Flint rounds up the surviving warriors then watched in terror while three giant arrows rip through three of the pillars and several walls holding up the middle of the structure. Flint suddenly realizes the humans must have studied dwarven architecture they just hit critical part of the building. Flint was running full speed to the forge only two things were on his mind. Mora. Thordin.
He was moving faster then he ever had, he saw the steps of his great temple he was almost there. Then it happened three more giant arrows fly through the sky hitting the critical area with enough force to tear the building in two. All Flint heard were the screams the raw emotion of pain and fear ripping through the throat he never stopped hearing them. The humans picked off any survivors.
Flint’s mind was lost to madness of grief he doesn’t know how he got there but he was at the trigger stone for the trap in a cavern high above Stonehaven. He doesn’t remember how or why he pressed the trigger but he did. Moradin guided him every dwarf was already died except for Flint he must save the city for what is lost can be found. The trigger clicks the earth begins to shake and the dams holding back the river collapse. Water rushes through the city flooding every corner. No one could have survived.
Dreams of races and wars elves and humans flooded Flint’s mind. When Flint awakes he notices he had a single camp with water, food, and ale. He looked around and saw a fantastic shield it was beautiful but once he saw his own reflection he dropped it to the ground and began to pray and weep. He sought water for nourishment but grabbed ale instead taking a long gulp. He sees Mora; from that moment on he was never going to be without it again. For two yrs Flint traveled in the mountain making ale drinking ale and rambling until one day he works right into dwarven patrol.
Flint in a drunken stupor tells King Lordor BattleHammer what was happened at Stonehaven. The good king brings him in to his clan and is sent to the Forge but Flint could not walk the great steps without being brought to tears. He then sits at a bar and drinks and drinks. The dwarf king let him be after such trials a dwarf will find the strength but needs to grieve. Flint was not in the city long when he met Alobar MithralMead a local tavern owner and current Brewmaster Champion. It was in a drunken rage that forced Flint to insult Alobar and challenge him to a brewmaster contest. The King thought the contest was a great idea and offered to judge but Flint’s actions and attitude was weighing thin on his patience. What happened next was a disaster of epic proportion. Flint forgot a crucial part of his process from being drunk and served the king basically stone and water, then when told he had lost he spit ale at the king. Turned around punched Alobar in the face, kissed the queen square on the mouth and pissed on the throne before passing out. The dreams came again stronger pictures of the surface and far away lands.
When Flint awoke he felt very strange. He was face down in mud he got up grabbed his belonging which were scattered everywhere and made his way to the river looking at the water. Flint was shocked by what he saw he was hairless beard and head had been completely shaven he had been banished. Flint cried and prayed as always Moradin answered and showed him visions of a grove. With haste Flint looked for a way to get to the surface. After several months he finds an opening in the mountain and sees his first rays of the sun.
Flint was marveled by all the trees and plants, the small furry creatures and fragrant flowers. While traveling the surface, Flint, racked by hunger ventured into a small human town. At first he was gruff to the people but soon found not all humans were evil. Father an old human priest fed and gave Flint some new clothes and traded stories of their past over ale. Flint was careful never to mention that he was a dwarf. They became friends and Flint soon found himself helping the human clergyman. He began by setting up feasts and mixers as well as militia training for the small community. Flint provided ale and forged armor and showed the humans to mine. He found himself praying more to Moradin than ever before. After several years the good priest died. Flint felt he should leave before someone notices that he hadn’t aged since he entered the town. He ask several of the villagers if they knew of the grove he saw in his dreams, most say no but one old man tells him it may lie to the east. The next day with a wagon full of supplies, tools and 2 light horses. Flint begins to travel again. After a couple of months Flint came across a carnival.
The carnival was full of strange and wonderful characters. There was halfing knife thrower, a gnome illusionist and some elf acrobats. The ring master Shamus a human werewolf knew straight away that Flint was a dwarf and extended every pleasure the carnival offered to him. Flint stayed with the carnival for several months learning how to disguise him from humans. After a short time the dreams became stronger, Flint asked Shamus if he had any idea where there could be a grove similar to the one he dreamed about. Shamus directed him to a hidden grove under the desert.
When Flint finally got to the grove he was except with open arms and put to work forging armor and heal the injured. On his first night Moradin came to him in his dreams and said “Now you are on the path I am with you always my son.” Flint dreamed of hope.
